The brief

The University of Kent wanted a software solution that could cover the whole university’s needs for asset management and also offer a way for students to book equipment on various courses.

Finding a software solution to help them was a high priority for the management team as these functions were currently done in separate manual processes and systems.

A project team was set up, and a tender was created, with six software companies submitting responses. After narrowing down to two suppliers, Siso software became the obvious choice due to the combination of:

key features such as 2D room and building mapping, barcode and QR code capabilities, and stock audits;
on-site training and a programme of learning supported by a knowledge base.

Our solution

Smarthub was chosen for the extensive list of features that meant they could cover their immediate requirements for an asset management tool, and more importantly, they could phase in the other features across a range of university departments over a 12-24 month period.

Due to Kent having twenty departments, each with different requirements from the system, different priorities and personnel resources to implement it, it was important that we listened to their needs for the overall project and understood that the project would need significant support throughout a lengthy implementation process.

As of today, Kent have 11 departments set up to use the system for asset and equipment management, and some other departments are also using the equipment booking tools for students.
