Collaborating for a More Sustainable Future in Further and Higher Education

Sustainability is becoming a defining focus within further and higher education technical resource teams.

A great example of this progress is UniGreenScheme, which helps universities and colleges give new life to surplus equipment. By managing the resale and reuse of unwanted items, they’re keeping valuable resources in circulation and cutting down on waste and carbon emissions. We’re proud to be working with UniGreenScheme to make it easier for Smarthub users to identify and redistribute equipment more sustainably.

In laboratories and research spaces, LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) is leading the way in promoting sustainable lab operations. LEAF provides accreditation for labs that take measurable steps to improve energy efficiency, reduce waste, and embed sustainable practices. At Siso, we’re working with LEAF to explore how our tools can help institutions track, monitor, and report on sustainable lab activities.

Collaboration is another key driver of sustainability. The UK Institute for Technical Skills & Strategy (UK ITSS) promotes partnerships between institutions to share access to specialist equipment. This not only helps reduce costs and duplication, but also enables faster, more collaborative research that can contribute to tackling global challenges, including the climate crisis.

At a more local level, organisations such as the Dorset Wildlife Trust play a vital role in protecting habitats and supporting biodiversity. As long-term supporters of the Trust, we at Siso are proud to contribute to their ongoing conservation efforts in Dorset — helping to safeguard our natural environment for future generations.
