University of Surrey – Annual Technician Conference

The University of Surrey – Annual Technician Conference brings together technicians

The Department of Music & Media at the University of Surrey has used Siso’s Smarthub system to manage its equipment and room booking for students for the last three years, and with other faculties considering a wider use, it made sense to invite Siso Software to present their latest solutions at the universities annual technician event last week.

The event allows the university to bring technicians from all areas together, discuss key issues and professional development and showcase important suppliers. The event coincided with the launch of the summer ’23 version update of Siso’s Smarthub solution, which is already helping hundreds of university departments in the UK, US and Australasia.

Gary Strudwick, Technical Support Manager, Engineering & Physical Sciences at The University of Surrey, commented, “It is rare to find a company that understands the needs of technicians in higher education and is actively building customised solutions. I look forward to using the new Smartlab solution over the next few months.”

The new version and student app have improved in many areas, including our new ‘form builder‘ for digital Risk Assessments and CoSHH. A new product, Smartlab, which is customised for science and engineering areas also has now also been launched to selected customers for beta testing.

Bernie Jendrzewski, Owner and Managing Director of Siso Software, said “It was great to meet with technicians and talk about how they currently organise and manage their complex and diverse tasks. All their comments will help us develop our new technician toolkit, which is being launched in our next version upgrade.”

The new ‘Technician Hub’ will save technicians time. Technician job boards make it easier to see all tasks in one place. You will be able to create projects, standardize services, allocate tasks by skill and duration and see the status of technician teams and tasks across a week. The ability for the system to automatically record technician skills and coaching time for their professional development is also a feature looking to be incorporated.
